Futura 2000 at Urban Spree gallery, Berlin

Graffiti has become main stream, the cities are now decorated with elaborate murals rather then vandalized, Fame has touched many already as they established a somewhat newish art form through the invention of the spray can.

We have the pleasure to announce that our current exhibition, "Futura 2000: The 5 Elements" is being extended by a week, until Sunday, March 3rd, 2019.
More than 60 original works on canvas from the pioneer of abstract graffiti are on display in an original scenography, retracing the origins of the universe and the birth of colors.

Interview with KALTBLUT editor in chief Marcel Schlutt

Lets start with a cosmo-political question:

Why would you never travel to the US or why should someone ask you that?

I get all these invites to NY fashion week or other events in the USA. But as long that crazy person Donald Trump is leading that country I will not travel to the US. I hate the political system in the US. Everything about this country is mad.

Do you think you are funny and what is funny to you?

Hm.. No I do not think I am funny.. haha..
The only thing in the world making my laugh as hell are the Golden Girls!

How would you describe your youth?

I am a 1980s/90s kid - my youth was peaceful, fun and I was surrounded by horses. I could have not had a better youth.

What made you want to be a cultural taste maker?

Am I a cultural taste maker? I don't think so.. I just do what I like and when people like my work its great.. if not its also great.

How is Berlin important to your life's story?

I have this love and hate relationship with Berlin! Berlin gives me the freedom to be creative. Berlin has a lot of good energy. But on the other hand: I cant stand all the tourist.. and from my point of view the gay scene kills my nervs. To much drugs and party.

What was your weakest moment and what did you learn from it?

Hm, good question. In general I think my weakest moments are when I meet new people, I see directly something in them.. if they have talent. And I start to trust them and support them. But most of the time I trust the wrong human being. What did I learn? Humans are horrible!

How did you end up birthing KALTBLUT?

First the magazine was named HONK! But one of our team members .. her name is Nadine Weiskirchner stole everything behind our backs. And be cause she was so kaltblütig ( cold blooded ) we named the new magazine KALTBLUT. But to be honest .. it was the best thing ever. So, THANKS to Nadine.

How important is the naming process for a magazine and what is the meaning in this case?

A good name is the key for succes .. so as I said before it happened because that girl was a mean one.. and I grew up with horses.. one of the horse races is named KALTBLUT. They are big, powerful animals. We thought this is the perfect name for us.

What is the mission\vision of Kaltblut?

Its very simple.. to give young artists from every section a voice without judging.

What was the first issue about and what has changed since than?

The first issue was named : NUDE! On 400 pages we asked artist to play with the theme. Since then we have changed the magazine 3 times.. the new issue is more focused on interviews. The first issues were more like a photo book.

Why did you decide to return to print, what's its future and what are the expectations?

Running a blog/magazine is so much work. 7 days a week! But at the end of the day you close your computer and all the work is "just online". So we came back to print. It is something you can hold in your hands.

You do a lot of the interviews, what's the preparation and do you like that part better then the styling which you are also doing?

I like both! And there is not really a preparation for it. Every shoot and very team is different. I just do it and see what comes out in the end.

How did the collaboration/partnership with Nicolas Simoneau come into being and how is the team work going?

We have been a real life couple for 5 years. Then he has joined the magazine as partner also. He is the best partner I can think off. We are so different with our ideas and taste but in the end we find the best way to create KALTBLUT.

Tell us about the new issue how did it come into being?

The new issue is focused on interviews and a few weeks before Christmas last year I decided lets print again. We had 3 weeks to get great content and to print it. We kicked the theme for the new issue and we just did what we like.

How do you pick whom you want to feature, is it your taste or do you have others advising you?

We are a team of 6-7 people. Everybody brings his own taste to the magazine. But also every editor is free to pick its own artist. KALTBLUT is a team work. I see myself more as the dad who gives our team members time and space to be creative.

Do you think KALTBLUT is presenting a message?

That is not what we want. Do you see a message in our work?

What is your personal fashion style?

I am 41. I like it more casual. I can't stand the clubkids fashion anymore.

What is your personal philosophy of life?

JUST DO IT!

How do you love and what do you love?

I am a Leo! When I love someone, something.. I fight for that person till death! If I have to! Do not mess with we!!!

What character in a movie or comic would you like to be?

Sophia from Golden Girls! If I end up like her in my late years, I will be happy.

Other Future plans for yourself?

Becoming a Politician! In this world so much is going wrong. And the only way to make changes in this world is to join a party and change it!

This is a very intellect exhibit that uses the borders of humor to make us aware that the times to laugh are shortening. See it before it closes, certainly an artist to watch as her eye maybe starts to focus beyond the reginal sphere to hit the global issue we face right in the head
